A GOOD BOOK IS THE BEST OF FRIENDS; THE SAME TODAY AND FOREVER. by Fiona Doolan the Bookshop Manager
Whilst I could take this opportunity to wax lyrical about specific publications that
the bookshop sells - I’m not going to!
Sangharakshita, when asked which three of his books he considered the most
important, said he could not narrow it down to just three because if he did not
consider a book to be worthwhile, he would not have written it in the first place!
When pressed, Sangharakshita came up with the following
recommendations:-
| For Relative Newcomers:- | Human Enlightenment Vision and Transformation The Three Jewels |
| For the More Experienced Person:- | A Survey of Buddhism The History of My Going For Refuge The FWBO and Protestant Buddhism |
| For People Studying Sutras:- | The Drama of Cosmic Enlightenment Wisdom Beyond Words Transforming Self and World |
If you want a book and it is not on our bookshelves, whether Windhorse or other
publishers, I can order it for you. We also make a wee bit of money on your
purchases so it is to all our benefit if you buy through the Centre and not
Waterstones. (Even though it is the best bookshop in the world and I find it hard to
control myself when I get in!)
In fact it was probably a questionable decision on my part when I became
bookshop manager. The first time I reported to the business meeting, announcing
proudly that I’d just banked £125, I then blushingly admitted that £65 of this was
from sales to myself!
Mind you, the greatest gift is the gift of the Dharma, so go on, treat
yourself, or your friend.
