Book Reviews

Where to start?

The Pali Canon

There are so many books about Buddhism, meditation and spiritual practice generally, that it can seem bewildering. There are books about the practice, history, literature, stories, poetry, people and places of Buddhism. There are modern books, ancient scriptures, highly technical tracts and deeply moving personal accounts. Where should a person start?

These pages contain books that people at the Leeds Buddhist Centre have enjoyed and wish to recommend to other readers, Buddhist and non-Buddhist alike. The reviews are divided up into the following categories

Dharma, Doctrine and Buddhism
Meditation
Essays and Commentaries

Many people find books, essays and literature a source of great inspiration and a vital part of their spiritual practice. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we have.
